Bruce Reid & Peter Johnson have been involved in the motor vehicle trade for a combined total of about 80 years, and have been friends and business associates for most of that time! They have been keen campers, both in tents & in caravans, for many years.

Bruce started his working life with an Aircraft Engineering apprenticeship, & shortly after completing that, transferred to the motor trade repairing & servicing cars & trucks. Since then he has been self employed, in all facets of the motor vehicle industry. Bruce has been on family camping holidays from an early age, starting with his parents and 3 brothers in an old ex army canvas tent, and travelling by 1937 Hudson 112 with an old wooden trailer towed behind laden with everything including the kitchen sink!. More recently he has spent time, each year, for a number of years, in UK & Europe tenting. Traveling this year in France & Spain for 2 months with a van & a UK caravan.

Peter has also been involved in the motor vehicle service industry, in partnership with his father for a number of years, & then with his own vehicle repair & servicing business, culminating in some years as the Service Manager of a Mercedes Benz franchise. He has also been camping for many years particularly as his family was growing up.

Our supplier in United Kingdom, John Midgley, has been a friend and business contact for about 15 years. He is involved in the motor vehicle, motorhome, & caravan sales business in North Yorkshire, England. His family owned & operated company sell & service motorhomes, caravans, 4x4`s, plus all sorts of cars & light commercial vehicles.

Some years ago we discussed the possibility of importing & marketing UK caravans in New Zealand. They have so many features that are different, & superior, to the often elderly New Zealand made caravans that were the predominant stock on the market at that time.

These features include design innovation that allows for:

Light weight for easier towing by smaller vehicles (an important consideration these days)
Good insulation
Bathrooms with shower and
Fitted flushing cassette toilet
Double glazing
Fitted insect screens, blinds & drapes
3 way frig/freezers

All this & lots more in a caravan size comparable or smaller than the generally available New Zealand made caravan.

About 4 years ago our first container with 2 UK caravans arrived, selected & packed by John & his team. From that time we have had a constant stream of containers arriving with all stock personally selected, checked & packed by John Midgley & his team.

Through John & the staff at Midgley Motor Caravans we also have access to & accounts with suppliers for a full range of parts & accessories for all the caravans that we import.
